Replacing filter cartridge with ceramic rings?

Salam n good day..

Hi guys, recently I just bought a HOB filter with 600L/hr capability for my 50-55L tank(~15g tank). At first I was thinking of buying a smaller one since my plan for the tank is I only want to put plants inside my aquarium. So basically with once weekly water change it will not cause me any problem. But for the long run, better to have some filtration so that maintenance will be easier.


Due to my enthusiasm, I thought I want to replace the cartridge filter of the HOB with ceramic rings because as far as I know those ceramic rings are good in terms of mechanical n biological filtration.

FEATURE
The wide porous surface provides optimum living condition for large quantities of nitrifying bacteria, thus improving the effect of biological filtration and stabilizing the water quality.


p/s :I've heard ceramic rings can cause spike of water pH and leads to death of the shrimp and plants??any explanation from u guys?

A new hobby - planted aquarium

Salam and very good day..

I don't think there are much Malaysian who are interested in planted aquarium since many of my friends think that it is a weird thing to do. maybe i might be a little bit eccentric..so here i would like to share my experience making my own planted aquarium and hope Malaysian people especially can get benefits from this.

suitable pH 6.6 --> 6.8

15g tank

Malaysian driftwood is known for its natural looking and suitable for moss to grow.the texture of the wood make easier for the moss to 'climb' or to hold on into it..however, we need to soak it for 3-4 days at least with often replacement of the water to get rid of the tannin. tannin is not harmful to the fish or plant however it will stained the water yellow. better to soak it in hot water ( which i used hottest temperature from the shower ) and bleach it ( i use kao bleach ) to fasten the rate of tannin release.

with adequate light and co2. plant will be happily producing O2 and maintains the ecosystem for ur aquarium..

to much co2 can result it in acidic water. however some fish like tetra can tolerate it so it is not much a bother..

anyway, my tank is only 50% complete. my rotala green n red will be arriving soon. so later after it arrives i will update my blog to show the further progress

Colgate Total teeth@gum scan??!!

1. salam..i have one thought regarding the commercial..i couldnt find the commercial for colgate total in malaysia but the commercial above is almost the same, only the language is different

2. so..can the scanner really2 scan the teeth and gum for bacteria?
as we know, oral commensal include staph, strep, neisseria, and other fungal and also virus. lets put aside virus first cause it is realy2 small compare to bacteria..so we try to look into bact. first okes?

3. bacteria is very small that only microscope can see it..even though microscope can see it, we still need special staining to look at it because some of it is gram negative while some are gram positive..so can really the scanner look at it?

4. first i thought the scanner is to detect the teeth stain or plague. but then i realized that the commercial specifically said bout bacteria buildup and also it has some scale from low to high germ density!!wow..i dunno what scale they use because the microbiologist use the petri dish and use the colony of bacteria to calculate things related to the amount of bacteria..

5. so if somebody there can explain this further to me i am really grateful..i already send an email regarding this matter to the colgate but i dun think i will get any respond from them..haha tq

kursus perubatan dibekukan??!!

1. jangan terkejut sebab bukan semua kursus perubatan yang sedang berjalan didalam negara mahupun luar negara akan dibekukan tapi ia hanya melibatkan permohonan kolej2 yang baru nak apply untuk adakan kursus perubatan ( e.g kalau utp baru nak apply untuk buat kursus perubatan maka tak boleh dalam masa 5 tahun ni )

2. walaubagaimanapun kite cuba lihat dahulu beberapa pendapat yang terdetik dihati.
          - kebanyakan orang2 kementerian adalah orang politik so banyak hal berkenaan kesihatan banyk terjebak atau dijebakkan ke arah politik.
          - banyak hal2 berkenaan bidang perubatan hanya diambil perhatian oleh kerajaan atau kementerian SETELAH dihebohkan oleh media.
        
3. Sebagai pelajar perubatan, saya memberikan contoh kolej ****, bilangan 'intake' pelajar bertambah dari tahun ke tahun. Dari 100 orang setiap 6 bulan kepada 170 orang setiap 6 bulan 2-3 tahun selepasnya. Di sini kite dapat lihat yang bukan jumlah kolej yang menawarkan kursus perubatan semata2 yg terlibat dalam masalah ini.

4. Pada pendapat saya, jika kerajaan membuat keputusan ini adalah untuk mengurangkan jumlah doktor 'to prevent the overload of  doctors in Malaysia' maka saya bersetuju kerana kredibility bidang ini perlulah dijaga.

5. Tetapi kita harus ingat ini bukan satu cara untuk mengurangkan doktor yang didakwa tiada kemampuan atau kurang cekap. Kemampuan dan kecekapan doktor perlu dilihat atau dilatih ditahap kolej itu sendiri.Tak semestinye bilangan berkurangan bakal melahirkan doktor yang lebih cekap. Kan bagus kalau kita ada lebih ramai doktor DAN doktor yang ramai2 itu doktor yang cekap :)

6. Takde masalah bagi saya jika kite mempunyai doktor yang ramai. Seperti contoh di India, doktor adalah terlalu terlalu terlalu terlalu ramai..tapi kalu kite lihat dari segi positivenye, kerana risau tiada kerja, maka doktor2 ini cepat2 melanjutkan pelajaran ke bidang specialist kerana jika tidak, general practitioner ( doktor biasa ) tidak akan ada kerja dan akan dihantar ke ceruk2 kampung di peripheral health care unit.




p/s : Malaysia masih kekurangan neurosurgeon and forensic specialist walaupun ade lambakan doctor..haha

Alhamdulillah..
